Performance Grant Rules
The Ernst Bacon Society announces a program of grants of up to $500 to assist with score rentals for the performance of orchestral works by Ernst Bacon.

Following the Ernst Bacon revival that began in 2005 and the recent release of Leonard Slatkin's excellent recording of Ford's Theatre on the NAXOS CD, Abraham Lincoln Portraits, the Ernst Bacon Society wishes to encourage the performance of more works of this Pulitzer-winning composer by orchestras across North America.

Since 2005 Bacon's orchestral works have been performed by the Buffalo, Nashville, Orlando, and Syracuse Symphonies, among others. We hope that orchestra conductors will recognize the great potential of his music to revitalize the concert repertoire and give audiences a fresh and enlivening listening experience.

Instrumentation and duration for the available works can be found in the 4th edition of David Daniels' reference book, Orchestral Music. Free reference CDs of most of them are available on request.

Bacon orchestral works can be obtained from the G. Schirmer Rental Library, the Fleisher Collection of Orchestral Music, and Subito Music (see list below).  For performing a Schirmer or Subito publication, the Ernst Bacon Performance Grant will be up to $500; for a piece from the Fleisher Collection, the grant will be up to $300.

The concert program should include the following statement: “This performance of [Bacon Title] was made possible in part by a grant from the Ernst Bacon Society.”

The Ernst Bacon Society will mail a letter of commitment confirming the grant, upon receipt of the invoice and contact information. Payment will be sent after the performance and upon receipt of the programs.

An initial pool of $4,000 has been allocated for these grants. Grants will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at the discretion of the Ernst Bacon Society.

Applying for a grant involves the following steps:

1. Performing group submits a letter of intent, with a rental quote from the source of the music.
2. The Ernst Bacon Society responds with a grant award, conditional upon completion of the subsequent requirements.
3. Performing group sends a copy of the rental invoice, along with the following information: name of music director; address and phone number of orchestra; and date of performance.
4. After the performance, the performing group sends 3 copies of the printed program book, with the credit line: “This performance of [Bacon Title] was made possible in part by a grant from the Ernst Bacon Society.”
5. The Ernst Bacon Society remits payment in the amount of the grant award.

The two mailings should be sent to:
